Funny you bring up the internet connected refrigerator. Those are dumb, and I say that as a wife and mom, to whom many salespeople like to show that feature. Umm, no. Wes Miller, aka @getwired, wrote a good post about this recently: http://getwired.com/2013/03/09/most-smart-appliances-are-stupid/ .

As for reducing the amount of technology in our lives. The way I see it, if it enhances my daily life and is truly integrated into my objectives and activities, it's great. If it requires unnatural acts on my part to "adopt" it, then good riddance. Being hyper connected through all these gadgets and apps doesn't always translate to advancement for the human race. Prime example: SnapChat. Don't even get me started...

I guess my take is more like the apps thing. Why do we need this? Tech is great but we are creating an infinite pile of pointless items that not only do not add value to our lives, they create more discord and even more need for more pointless things. One of the things I saw the other day was an internet connected refrigerator. Is it so far of a stretch to imagine remembering the things you need to get from the store, writing them down on paper, or even ...gasp...figuring out a way to live without it?

I wonder this as well. I am looking to simplify my technical life and reduce my tech surface area. Without that simplification, I can see things growing out of control to the point I don't know where my life has gone because my head is buried in the tech. This has happened to me in the past and I would hope I don't repeat it ... again ... and again.
